Less than a year after more than a dozen players staged a mutiny and stepped away from the team, Spain is one win away from reaching its first-ever World Cup final.
Last September, 15 players signed letters that said they were withdrawing from the national team to protect their emotional health. The players also called for the removal of coach Jorge Vilda. The Spanish federation ultimately backed Vilda, and only three of the 15 players returned to the team in time for World Cup selection.
La Roja advanced to the semifinals by scoring in extra time to defeat the Netherlands on Friday.
Meanwhile, Sweden — runner-up to Canada at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics — is coming off victories over the defending champion U.S. squad in the Round of 16 and previously undefeated Japan in the quarterfinals.

Betting on the 2023 World Cup: Who is favored to win?
Whether you're a veteran wagerer or a newcomer looking to bet on the 2023 World Cup, there's been an interesting movement in the odds on the way to the semifinals.
Although No. 3 Sweden is the highest-ranked team remaining in the World Cup field, the Swedes are not the odds-on favorite to win the title. BetMGM has No. 6 Spain a slight favorite as the top choice at odds of +180. No. 4 England is a close second at +188. Co-host Australia is +350 with Sweden the longest shot at +500.
